Artificial Intelligence

The Journal of Human, Earth, and Future acknowledges the transformative potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, such as ChatGPT and other large language models (LLMs), in scholarly research and publishing. While these tools can enhance various aspects of the research process, their use necessitates adherence to ethical standards to maintain the integrity and transparency of academic work. This journal follows the guidance set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) on AI and authorship to ensure responsible and ethical AI integration in academic publishing.

1. Use of GenAI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors who utilize GenAI tools for tasks beyond basic language editing—such as content generation, data analysis, or study design—must disclose this usage in their manuscript.

Methods Section: A detailed account of how the GenAI tool was employed in the research process.

Acknowledgments Section: Specific information about the GenAI tool used, including its name and version.

Note: The use of GenAI tools solely for language editing (e.g., grammar, spelling, formatting) does not require disclosure.

2. Authorship and Accountability

GenAI tools cannot be credited as authors, as they do not meet the criteria for authorship, including the ability to take responsibility for the work. All content generated with the assistance of GenAI must be reviewed and verified by the human authors, who bear full responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript.

3. Use of GenAI in Peer Review

Reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality and integrity in the review process. The use of GenAI tools to generate review content is discouraged, as it may compromise the confidentiality of the manuscript and the originality of the review. If a reviewer uses GenAI tools for language editing of their review, this should be disclosed to the editorial team.

4. Editorial Use of GenAI

Editors and editorial board members must not employ GenAI tools to make editorial decisions or to process manuscript content, as this could affect the confidentiality and integrity of the editorial process.

5. Ethical Considerations

All use of GenAI tools must comply with the journal’s ethical standards, including but not limited to policies on plagiarism, data integrity, image manipulation, and proper attribution. Authors are ultimately responsible for ensuring that AI-assisted content upholds the highest standards of academic honesty.

This policy is subject to regular review and may be updated in accordance with evolving standards in academic publishing and AI ethics. For any uncertainty regarding the use of AI tools in your submission, we encourage you to consult the editorial office prior to manuscript submission.
